Active Load Balancers
Merus Active load balancers (ALB) are the ultimate answer to power quality problems
in installations caused by unbalanced load conditions for a range of segments and
applications. They are a high performance, compact, flexible, modular and cost-effective type
of active power filters (APF) that provide an instantaneous and effective response to power
quality problems in low or high voltage electric power systems. They enable longer equipment
lifetime, higher process reliability, improved power system capacity and stability, and
reduced energy losses, complying with most demanding power quality standards and grid codes.
Using single-phase loads on a three-phase electric power system (connected phase-to-phase
or phase-to-neutral) results in unbalanced load conditions in the system. Unbalanced load
currents result in unbalanced voltages and affect other loads connected at the point of common
coupling. Unbalanced load conditions also cause excessive neutral current, resulting in
overheating motors and transformers, power losses and lower system efficiencies.
Load balancing is necessary to improve the power quality and efficiency of the system.
Active harmonic generators
Active harmonic generators (AHG) are the ultimate answer to validate the harmonic performance
of different components of the electric power system for a range of segments and applications.
They are a high performance, compact, flexible, modular and cost-effective type of active power
filters (APF) that provide an instantaneous and effective response in low or high voltage electric
power systems. They enable longer equipment lifetime, higher process reliability, improved power
system capacity and stability, and reduced energy losses, complying with most demanding power
quality standards and grid codes.
AHGs work as real-time three-phase generators of harmonic currents. They enable testing of
electrical equipment in a realistic environment with site-like conditions. For example, the
tested equipment can be simultaneously loaded with fundamental current plus specified harmonic
currents, that can also be modified in respect of amplitude.
Static var generators
Merus Static Var Compensator (SVC), another part of the Merus FACTS family,
is built on proven thyristor technology. The state-of-the-art Merus thyristor
valve is extremely compact in design and delivers superior performance compared
with other solutions available in the market.
Fast reactive power compensation with Merus SVC ensures effective flicker mitigation
and voltage variation control in steel plants with electric arc furnaces (EAFs), in
mining plants with mine winders, excavators, crushers and grinders or to enhance
transmission capacity and achieve unity power factor in utilities. Merus SVC provides
tailored solutions to meet customer requirements from 3.3KV up to 38.5kV 250MVAr.

Active Harmonic Filter
Merus active harmonic filters provide a solution for real-time cancellation of
harmonic distortions created by non-linear loads to ensure compliance with IEEE
519, G5/4 and other power quality standards and recommendations. Merus active
harmonic filters are a versatile solution, easily tailored to deliver power
factor improvement, voltage variation control, flicker mitigation and load
The Merus A2-series active harmonic filters are built on 3-level topology and
are designed for light industrial and commercial buildings with voltage level
up to 690V in both 3W and 4W applications. Merus M-series active harmonic filters
are customized for demanding applications and are available from 480V up to 1000V.
Equipped with state-of-the-art monitoring and reporting functionality, the robust
Merus active filters operate in harsh environments and are easily scalable.
Uninterrupted Power Quality
Merus Uninterrupted Power Quality (UPQ) is an innovative concept, combining the
functionalities of a UPS and an active harmonic filter into a single robust solution.
UPQ protects mission critical processes from supply interruptions and voltage sags
while maintaining supply voltage quality by compensating harmonic currents and the
reactive power fluctuations of non-linear loads.
Merus UPQ has two operation modes. In secured supply conditions, it operates in
power quality mode, performing active filtering of harmonic distortions as well
as load balancing and flicker mitigation. When it detects a voltage sag or power
outage in the supply network, it shifts to power protection mode to protect
against critical loads. Merus UPQ is available from low up to medium voltage levels.

Merus Energy Storage Systems (ESS)
Merus Energy Storage Systems (ESS), built on state-of-the-art-technology are modular
solutions in terms of output power and energy. Variety of operation modes and
flexibility to connect to any voltage level, makes Merus ESS a preferred solution
for complete electricity system value chain starting from the generation.
Particularly renewable energy integration, and from Transmission and Distribution (T&D)
down to hybrid, island and microgrids. Built-in flexible design permits easy scalability
to deliver customized solution from few hundreds of kWh to several hundred MWh. Typical
operation modes of Merus ESS include but not limited to are: frequency & voltage regulation,
peak shaving and intermittent power support including unique power quality modes.
In the micro grid applications, the core of Merus ESS is the modern Merus MCC Micro
Grid Controller which measures various parameters from solar farm, wind farm, diesel
generators or any other distributed power generator sources. Based on the micro grid
loading requirement versus availability of distributed power sources, Merus MCC controller
optimizes and prioritizes the overall power generation resulting in lowest operational costs
and maximum savings of fossil fuel.
Merus Static Synchronous Compensators
Merus Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOMs) are part of the Merus FACTS product
family and built on modern IGBT power electronics technology. Merus STATCOMs are
designed to provide real-time reactive power compensation and active harmonic
filtering in demanding applications. Merus STATCOMs minimize voltage variations
and mitigate flicker caused by heavy industrial loads, such as electric arc furnaces (EAFs),
mine winders, harbor cranes, excavators, etc..
In wind and solar farms, Merus STATCOMs enable grid code compliance. Transmission and distribution
